The Company has acquired exclusive, world-wide rights from Columbia University to a patent portfolio that covers a particular gene silencing technology and specific gene targets. These patents cover composition-of-matter over a number of potential therapeutic products, and broad claims over their applications. The uses of these agents include generation of blood vessels, protection of heart muscle after ischemic insult, and prevention of restenosis. The Company believes that these patents offer Angioblast freedom to operate and will prevent competitors from using comparable gene silencing technologies to target the same genes and develop competing products.
